This week was the big science fair. Both J and A1 entered and I'm really proud of them.
J put together a meal plan where a family could eat for just $10 a person for the entire week (21 meals). She made sure each meal had a protein, carbohydrate and a fruit or vegetable, and made sure each day had meals with iron, fiber, vitamin D, calcium, and potassium.
One of the judges was so impressed, she personally came and found J to thank her for such an impactful project. (J won an honorable mention)
A1 did his project on if a pet dog would go to a yellow plate (yellow is the color stray dogs are most strongly attracted to) or if a pet dog would go to their own food dish (classical conditioning). I found it to be such a unique project that he came up with. He worked hard and learned a lot.
In the first trial, 90% of the dogs went to their own food dish. On the 2nd trial, 30% of the dogs went to the yellow plate. While the number of dogs sampled was small, this is something that could use further research. Perhaps yellow items would be effecting in training dogs quicker.

We also headed down to Moab from some science/history/PE/geology/math. We hiked to four arches, saw dinosaur tracks, and petroglyphs. More details can be found here.
Calling out while standing under one of the arches, created a distinct echo four separate times down the canyon. We thought that was so cool we went and learned about echoes.
A1 did more in his nature science notebook and we taste tested the same bread recipe that was baked or proofed for different amounts of time using the settings on a borrowed bread machine. Lightly baked with a long proof time won.
Math: Besides adding up how many miles we hiked in Moab, A1 practiced multiplying and dividing larger numbers.
Language Arts: We had another read-a-thon day, played mad libs, did Exact Path, and practiced more spelling words.

History: A1 learned about the executive and judicial branches of government.
Extras: Piano, Chess, Engineering club, mindfulness journal, and cooking. This week for cooking class, he made edible cookie dough and garlic bread.

A2 had Joy School, Library Story Hour, watering our garden experiment, playing at the park and playing on Utah's natural playground.
