Week 9: Playing the Forest Equaled Playing with Math

This week we spent another morning in the woods where K measured sticks and other objects (math) to see if they would work for building a fort (Engineering/Science). He had to learn to communicate with a partner (LA). Between hauling sticks- and each other- the kids got their PE in, too.

With access to the internet, we were able to do clay creation club in the forest.
Soccer ball and practicing indentation on clay
K also had chess club. After club he does online lessons to learn more. He wants to beat his older brother one day.  He also did space club where they learned about the phases of the moon.
And the locate library does craft club.

More Math: We're back to mastering 3 times tables as we continue to review addition and subtraction.

More LA: This week we studied irregular verbs. K laughed at how funny irregular verbs would sound if we just added "ed" to the end of them. He particularly found "doed" instead of "did" funny.

More Science: Building bricks took up significant amount of time this week.

K just loves his I Brick lessons. He gets weekly instructions for a new build. Additionally, there is an online lesson that teaches him about the engineering concepts of each build and additional challenges and modification to make for exploring the concepts further. He spent a good portion of Monday morning testing the limits of his Jeep.

He also spent over 12 hours this week finding and assembling all the Legos for this build.
Bonus science: One evening we watch the Draconid meteor shower. We live in mostly dark skies, so we had a great view right in our own yard. Dad also pulled out the telescope and we were able to see Saturn's rings.
