Home Base For Learning: 2nd to Last Week

A1 worked really hard and finished all of his math review this week. We had a donut party to celebrate.

LA: More typing and reading and writing. A1 also compared and contrasted different DND characters. He then picked one to research further into what the character could do as it leveled up. He made a chart to explain it and wrote a paper on it. I love that he can pick a topic he's interested in and use that to learn important language art skills.

What causes the worst hurricanes?

Ok, you know that the world is heating up right? Well, its getting worse. Why? Because of hurricanes! The heat and more is causing stronger, longer traveling hurricanes. Uh oh! The longest one ever was, what I feel is smart, because it went to land and to water and to land, and back into water, so it lasted forever. Smaller hurricanes have seen powering bigger hurricanes and even joining together! Wait... Does that mean that giant hurricanes may join into one ULTRA HURRICANE? How worried should we be?... We may never know if hurricanes will take over the WORLD!

Have we found life on Venus?

Well, its probably hard to imagine life somewhere where everything is hot and dry and full of acid, but there could be life on this toxic planet. There is a chemical there that, as far as we know, needs life in order to be. But it's definitely not on the ground. Does this sound confusing? Well, the truth is, it's too dangerous on the ground, but there is one other area...Venus's clouds! But the clouds are made of deadly stuff! However, scientist have also found ammonia in Venus's clouds, which is only produced on Earth by living creatures. Ammonia could protect micro-life from the deadly gases on Venus.

We also had so much fun with March Mammal Madness, we went back to older years. We watch 2022, J won this time. We have brackets filled out for 2023 and 2024. We'll see who ends ups as the ultimate champion. Speaking of animals...

State Animal Facts

Oklahoma has clones! Armadillo clones! As in every time it gives birth, it's to four identical quadruplets! In Oklahoma it's illegal to trip a horse, make faces at dogs, and wrestle a bear! Oh and you can't go whaling in this land locked state. Weird.

New Mexico! Yes I'm going there to see the richest snake in the world. Can you guess what it is? Answer- the Diamondback Rattlesnake! Has diamonds on it so... And I want to see a road runner before he gets away. Runs away to be exacted. Yes they can fly! Oohh, and they have a Mexican gray wolf! That is one of rarest species of wolf! I want to see it!

Arizona! It has a snake! A very venomous snake! The Mojave Rattlesnake! And a lizard that's stealing water through it's skin! Strange.

Alaska has wolves that swim between islands! Cool! And... The largest bear on earth! Weighing about as much as a car! 🐻 = 🚗

Hawaii! Last but not least. It's wild life is unique only to it! Seals that rest on beaches and beside people! A snail with a rainbow shell! A duck that can even climb up waterfalls! And... Wait! The caterpillars are becoming more of a Cat! Carnivores caterpillars are there! And it has no land snakes. Hey! Well, at least they have a sea snake! And now the birds are stealing the bees' job and getting nectar from the flowers! And the ONLY native land mammal is... a bat?! Everything else was introduced by humans! And apparently there's a fish and its mouth is a suction cup?! Ok now... 🐌🐍🐠🦭🐦🐛🦆 GOOD BYE!

A2 had a fun filled week, too. They learned about ladybugs at story hour. They released bugs at the library and then were given some to take home and put at our house.
