Dessert Week

Tenacity- the quality displayed by someone who just won’t quit—who keeps trying until they reach their goal.

I will always do my best.

I am strong, inside and out.

When I don’t succeed right away, I can try again.

I have tenacity.

Above is our quote and affirmations of the week.

Math: We began Singapore Primary Mathematics 5B book. This week we started with dividing decimals to the second and third decimal place.

Science: A1 baked cinnamon rolls and donuts.  Someday we really need to move away from desserts, but it's what's motivating him right now. (And we had a few celebrations that called for treats.)

He also continued to binge watch Real Science videos on animals. This week it was Orca, Sunfish and Jellyfish.

Orca: Top predator of the sea! Orcas will eat everything including sharks and have the strongest bite force in the world.

Sunfish: They are cold blooded yet still go extremely deep to get prey, yet not nocturnal to hunt prey at night when all their prey is at the surface.

Jellyfish: The immortal jellyfish to be exact! If not eaten, the Strawberry Jellyfish will live forever by growing up then becoming a baby again!

LA: Detailed writing.  Pretend a incredibly confused alien is coming to visit. Your goal is to describe to them, in great detail, how to do something productive.

Well, that was supposed to be the assignment.  A1decided to describe "How to Fall Down" and refused to write anything else.

While I would love everything we do to be the most amazing and joyful thing ever with compliant kids who just soak up every learning opportunity offered to them. That is not reality. There are going to be times of difficulty and non compliance, times when you will need to sit with your child for an hour just to get 9 math problems done (yes, we did that this week, too). This week my straight A public school student even struggled with wanting to be a school. Perhaps this was fueled by a holiday Monday and the only snow storm of the season.

A1,however, did extra typing as he found some fun stories to type up.

History: We learned a little about 3 new presidents. He's A1 with more:

Franklin Pierce didn't have as vice president. He was very boring. He supported slave states.

James Buchanan was blamed for a lot of things! He never married. By the time he ended his presidency, seven states had seceded.

Abraham Lincoln was president through the civil war. He loved cats! He was the first president to own cats😸. When someone asked his wife if he had any hobbies her response was, "Cats." He was the tallest president and had the biggest feet!  First president to have a beard. His killer's brother saved his sons life! Personally, he is my favorite president even writing about him was very fun to do!😊

We also read The Gettysburg Address and talked a little about the Civil War.

At the end of the week, A1 did a state puzzle and we watched the 2nd episode of How the States Got Their Shapes.

Hint, a giant cat wasn't involved in shaping the states
Here's A1 with more in the States: The east states' borders follow rivers so they are squiggly. They needed rivers for transportation. The west states have straight borders because rivers weren't as important. They used railroads for transportation.

Clubs and more: Piano Lessons, Chess Club, Animal Science Club, and playing outside because it's been so warm (at least until the weekend).

A2's Week

A2 learned some of her toys were magnetic,
played in a sensory bin,
worked on fine motor skills,
and discovered how an old telephone worked.
We made cookies together, too.
She, K, and J also helped put together a very blue puzzle of some whales.
