K is doing Singapore Math and we are reading Dinosaurs Before Dark, the first book of the Magic Tree House series.
All three of them started The Good and the Beautiful Handwriting Curriculum this week.
We continue to read stories of our state's history.
And for health we studied the brain and nervous system.
A2 went to story time at the library and played with play dough.
We also built a reading fort. Aside from online and book work, A1 built a domino robot.While K built a marble maze runner.
And A2 explored basic properties of physics. (Newton's laws of motion)
We did some art based off of Van Gogh's Starry Night .Found a crazy big spider.
Learned about the 4 color Theorem. Any flat map can be colored with a maximum of 4 colors and not have two of the same colors touching sides. It's a fun brain teaser to draw crazy shapes and number them 1-4. The same numbers can touch corners, but they can't touch sides. Every 2D map is possible.
We played logic games.
And explored the Fibonacci Spiral. It is found in nature from tiny flowers to grand galaxies. The Fibonacci sequence that creates the "golden ratio" is made by adding the numbers in sequence. 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, etc
After living in Florida for a time, Great Grandma and Grandpa came home with a large collection of a variety of shells. These were collected sometime between 1975-1980. They served a mission in Florida from 1974-76 and retuned to Florida for a visit in 1980. The shells sat in their home, which my grandma then inherited, for over 30 years. My grandma then passed them onto me. Although, I was only 10 when Great Grandma died, she left a lasting legacy. While she loved her ancestors and genealogy, she also continually prepared for our future. She made her great grand daughter's baby blankets and other items. I mostly remember her as the puzzle loving great grandma, but I learned about her early life through her autobiography. I'm grateful she wrote things down and left a record for her posterity.
