Week 6- Field Trips!

Tell me, and I will listen; Teach me, and I’ll remember; Involve me, and I will learn.

— Benjamin Franklin

Sunday the kids had a musical program at church. Grandparents came to see it. Grandma brought the rest of the Fablehaven series. A1 was so excited to have the rest of the series, he finished book 3 within two days.

Language Arts: We worked on when to use a/an and when to use 's or s' for possessive nouns. We also did more spelling words using wiki sticks. For spelling, we are working through the most common words in the English language and making sure A1 knows how to spell them. I have seen graduating seniors not know how to spell the word "was", and I don't want that to be my kids.

Math: We are working with numbers into the millions now. A1 practiced rounding and place value.

Science: We have a nature notebook we are using for learning outside. This week we identified plants that had gone to seed and went on a grass scavenger hunt. Fun fact, corn is a grass.

How many types of grasses can you find where you are?

We also took a field trip to the Eureka! Science Museum in Colorado.

History: A1 watched Mia Academy videos about the Declaration of Independence and the Revolutionary War. He read the Magic Tree House Fact Tractor on the Revolutionary War. We brought back War Light to play the Revolutionary War. Ironically, we lost the south a couple of times before we won a game- perhaps foreshadowing up and coming history.

PE: We found ourselves in Moab this week, so we hiked to Faux Falls.
We also got out and enjoyed the beautiful fall colors.

And we played at some fun playgrounds in Colorado.

Extras: Piano practice, Minecraft and Chess club, and cooking class.

A2 had a lot of fun with imaginary play and taking care of her animals.

Pet Beauty Parlor

She also played with wiki sticks.

There was two days of Joy School, and all of our travel adventures. Plus, we continue to read.
