Bryce Canyon with Kids

My husband was presenting at a conference just outside of Bryce Canyon. So of course we tagged along to play in the park all day while he imparted of his knowledge and learned many useful things from others.

The first day we only had the afternoon. To make turning into all the view points easier, we first drove to the farthest point in the park, Rainbow Point. From there we worked our way out of the park. By doing it this way, all of the view points were on the right hand side of the road.

While were were at Rainbow Point, we hiked the Bristlecomb Loop and looked over Yovimpa Point. I was surprised to discover we could see Navajo Mountain. We used to live not too far for that mountain and, out there, it felt like we were beyond the edge of civilization.
After the BristleComb Loop's short walk, we hit every view point we could until it was time to check into our hotel. We were hot and tired by the end, so I skipped over the amphitheater. I wanted the kids to be able to experience the "Awe" factor when they weren't so tired from a long day of travel. We also skipped Swamp Canyon overlook because the kids were pretty done jumping in and out of the car.
Needing to be inside for a while to cool off, we headed to the visitor's center. The kids loved the ground hog and night sky exhibits.
At the hotel, we went swimming and to one last overlook behind Bryce View Lodge. There is also a waterfall back there the kids enjoyed looking over.

The next day we went right to Bryce Point. A1 was especially impressed.
From there we went to Inspiration point and hiked to all three view points.  It's pretty steep getting to the third overlook, but then again, most things in Bryce Canyon are.
Fun in the parking lot
J liked this "walking" tree

It was starting to get hot so we decided to skip over other view points and head straight to our planned hike- The Queen's Garden. Even our three year old was able to hike down this one. Unfortunately, it was pretty close to nap time, which meant I had an extra 30 lbs. of dead weight to carry back up the trail. Going both down and up, the boys were awesome hikers and lead the way. All the kids especially loved the tunnels.

J thought this formation looked like someone raising their fist into the air.
Chipmunk friend looking for food.

Bird looking for food, too.

After Queens Garden we headed to see Thor's Hammer and peek through the window that's at the top of Wall Street.
Our last hike of the day was Mossy Cave. You need to leave the park and head towards Tropic to get to this one. There is also an awesome waterfall on this hike.
Found our third medallion for the "Hike the Hoodoos" program
Kids had fun throwing pinecones into the water and watching them go over the waterfall.

After a long day in Bryce Canyon, we headed to The Pizza Place in Tropic. A1 said it was the best pizza he's ever had. He even ate it the next day as left overs which is something he doesn't do with any other pizza. I'd say that's a pretty good recommendation. It's worth the drive to check them out.
